I grew passed you long ago.
You held me up,
bent and waving;
I no longer require your support.
One can’t ask for that,
must be given
freely
with a love and understanding that,
even if you have not grown
up to my height,
even if you desire less sunlight,
you put down harder roots
and weigh browning leaves
against the sweetness of my fruit.
