it’s these bones that soak death,
heavy with memories
they won’t soon let me forget.
I intended to carve something new.
I sought to overcome you.
I tread passive,
passed indifferent,
practiced going numb.
there is no one who can shed this skin and wear it around,
keep these bones from collecting,
swelling,
telling me what they’ve found
with weighted steps,
weighing on breathes.
I’ve tried holding silence;
I can hear them break.
